How Much Does Managed IT Cost for a Small Business in Utah?

Quick Summary: WITS publishes its business IT prices. Full managed IT (WITS Command) is $85 per user per month. WITS Inner Circle, which adds security architecture, testing and training, is $125 per user per month. Both need at least 5 users and run month-to-month. This guide shows what the plans include, what 5, 10 and 25 users cost, and how to compare quotes.

WITS lists its rates on the pricing page, and this guide uses them. It does not give a Utah market average, because an average hides what matters: what the monthly price includes.

The four WITS plans

WITS On-Call: $150 per hour

Break-fix support, remote or on-site, for Mac, PC, server and network. Billed per incident.
Not included: monitoring, proactive alerts, or included support hours. After-hours work is $275 per hour.

WITS Sentinel: $22 per device per month

24/7 monitoring, threat detection and alerting, automated patching, network device monitoring and a monthly health report. No user minimum.
Support incidents are billed extra at $125 per hour ($225 per hour after hours).

WITS Command: $85 per user per month

Everything in Sentinel, plus unlimited remote support during business hours, on-site support, server and workstation backup, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace management, network, WiFi and firewall management, and a monthly IT report and review. 5 user minimum, month-to-month.
After-hours on-site work beyond normal scope is $175 per hour.

WITS Inner Circle: $125 per user per month

Everything in Command. Inner Circle also lists CCIE-designed security architecture, annual penetration testing, email threat protection, security awareness training, dark web monitoring, an incident response plan, assistance with HIPAA, NIST 800-171, PCI DSS and SOC 2, and a quarterly compliance review. 5 user minimum, month-to-month.
After-hours on-site work beyond normal scope is $175 per hour.

A few points in the fine print:

  • After-hours work. The pricing page says most emergencies for managed clients are handled remotely and covered by the monthly fee, and that the rate applies only to after-hours on-site work beyond normal scope. Ask any provider how normal scope is defined.
  • Equipment, software and licenses. The WITS terms (section 6) say these are quoted in writing before you approve them and that pricing may include a markup over WITS's cost. Ask any provider for the price and the markup basis in the quote.
  • Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. The pricing page lists management of these platforms under Command and does not say the licenses are included.
  • Compliance. The WITS terms say compliance assistance supports your own obligations and that you remain responsible for compliance (section 4.2).

More detail is on the managed IT page.

What a month costs: worked examples

The 5 user minimum makes 5 the smallest office shown. These figures leave out equipment, software licenses, projects, after-hours work and other add-ons. Plans are billed monthly in advance. A change in user or device count may change the monthly fee, and the WITS terms (section 4.1) require you to report changes.

WITS Command at $85 per user per month:

  • 5 users: 5 x $85 = $425 per month
  • 10 users: 10 x $85 = $850 per month
  • 25 users: 25 x $85 = $2,125 per month

WITS Inner Circle at $125 per user per month:

  • 5 users: 5 x $125 = $625 per month
  • 10 users: 10 x $125 = $1,250 per month
  • 25 users: 25 x $125 = $3,125 per month

At a constant headcount and today's published prices, 12 months comes to $5,100, $10,200 and $25,500 on Command, and $7,500, $15,000 and $37,500 on Inner Circle. Plans are month-to-month, so these totals are not a commitment. Inner Circle costs $40 more per user per month than Command ($125 minus $85): $200 more at 5 users, $400 at 10 and $1,000 at 25.

For comparison, a 10 user Command plan at $850 per month equals about 5.7 hours of On-Call time at $150 per hour (850 / 150 = 5.67). On-Call includes no monitoring or backup.

A business with fewer than 5 users that wants managed IT should call 385-242-2514 to talk through the right fit.

What moves the price up or down

These factors can change the quote.

  • Users or devices. Command and Inner Circle are billed per user, Sentinel per device.
  • Security and compliance requirements. A healthcare office (HIPAA) or a business that takes card payments (PCI DSS) has extra requirements, and meeting them can change the quote. Ask any provider, WITS included, exactly which compliance work each plan covers.
  • Servers and on-premise equipment. A server needs patching, backup and eventual replacement, so ask each provider how servers are counted.
  • Multiple locations. Each site has its own network, firewall and WiFi. Ask whether a second location changes the price.
  • After-hours coverage. Each plan lists its own after-hours rate above. Ask how after-hours emergencies are handled and billed.
  • Equipment age. Older machines can need more support time. Microsoft's lifecycle page lists October 14, 2025 as the end of support date for Windows 10 Home and Pro. Paid Extended Security Updates only delay the problem: Microsoft says commercial organizations can receive them for a maximum of three years after end of support. A PC still on Windows 10 needs an upgrade plan.

How to compare quotes from any provider

A per-user price only means something next to what it includes. Ask every provider, WITS included, the same questions and get the answers in writing.

  • Included support hours. Ask whether remote support is unlimited or capped, and whether on-site work is included or billed per visit.
  • Response times. Ask for targets in writing, for business hours and after hours. The WITS terms describe response times as targets, not guarantees (section 8.3).
  • Security tools. Ask which endpoint protection, email filtering and multi-factor authentication are included, and which cost extra.
  • Backup and restore testing. Ask what is backed up, where the copies are kept, and how often a restore is tested. The business data backup guide covers this.
  • Onboarding fees. Ask whether there is a one-time setup charge and what it covers.
  • Contract, exit and price changes. Ask for the term, the notice period, any cancellation fee, how much notice you get before rates change, and what happens to your data on exit. WITS managed plans (Sentinel, Command and Inner Circle) are month-to-month with 30 days written notice. The WITS terms say WITS can adjust prices at any time and that updated terms take effect when posted (section 13).
  • Documentation and passwords. Ask who owns the network documentation, admin passwords and licenses. The WITS terms say WITS returns your data, documentation and access credentials on cancellation.

Managed IT compared with hiring in-house

An in-house employee and a managed plan cover different parts of the job. This comparison uses no salary figures, because pay depends on the role and the person. Compare a real offer with a real quote.

  • Coverage. One employee has vacations, sick days and hours off. A provider with a team can cover a request when one person is out.
  • Tooling. Monitoring, patching, backup and security software each cost money and need someone to run them. Many managed plans bundle some tools with labor, so ask which tools and licenses are included and which cost extra.
  • Expertise. Networking, security, cloud and compliance are separate skill sets. One hire may cover some of them, not all.
  • Single point of failure. If one person holds every password and leaves, the business has to rebuild access. Either way, require written documentation that you own.

An employee is on site every day and learns your business closely. A larger business, or one with software that needs daily attention, may be better served by hiring. WITS also works alongside internal IT staff and existing contractors.

Get a written quote

WITS offers an on-site business assessment and quote. The assessment is a $200 flat fee on weekdays ($250 on weekends, $350 after hours). Ask whether it is credited toward a managed plan.

Call 385-242-2514 or use Get Started. A phone or video consultation is free for the first 30 minutes, then a flat fee.
